It\u2019s not just a trendy new method only used by cashless students, it\u2019s actually the <b>preferred method of payment across the UK<\/b>.<\/p><p>This was all revealed by <a href=\"https:\/\/home.barclays\/insights\/2025\/04\/contactless-spending-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barclays<\/a>, which published a report on its customers&#8217; 2024 spending habits. This isn\u2019t a small report either; it takes hundreds of millions of customer transactions into account, and considers both the number of <b>contactless transactions<\/b>, and how much consumers are spending. It turns out both of these things continued to rise in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ef374f7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4ef374f7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How Much Do We Rely on Contactless Payments?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-127f05e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"127f05e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So, what does the data show? Over half the time? 60%? 75%? More? Well, Barclays\u2019 research shows that yes, it is actually more. In 2024, a whopping 94.6% of all in-store payments under \u00a3100 were made <b>using contactless payments<\/b>. So, in very simple terms, in every 100 trips to the shop, people opt for contactless payments 95 times. Still think cash is king?<\/p><p>The domination of <b>contactless payments<\/b> doesn\u2019t stop there either. The same research also found the average transaction size has gone up, too, now standing at \u00a316.10 (up 2.6% on last year).
